Successful Production Transfer for Mepal b.v. – by Moving Industries b.v.

Start: October 2024
Completion: April 2025

Moving Industries b.v. is proud to announce the successful completion of a production transfer project for our valued client, Mepal b.v. The relocation of Mepal’s MyMepal production activities from Amersfoort to their main logistics and manufacturing facility in Lochem marks a significant milestone in the company’s continued focus on operational efficiency and centralized operations.

This project, spanning several months of planning, coordination, and execution, reached its culmination in late March 2025, with production officially resuming in Week 14 at the new site. We are honored to have played a key role in ensuring this transition was completed on time, within scope and budget, and with minimal disruption to Mepal’s operations.

Background: Why the Move?

Mepal b.v., a leading manufacturer of smart food storage and lunchware solutions, had been operating its MyMepal personalization service out of its location in Amersfoort. As demand grew and strategic goals shifted toward more streamlined logistics and sustainable operations, the decision was made to consolidate all production activities under one roof at the Lochem facility.

The primary objectives of this move were:

  • Centralization of operations to reduce complexity
  • Improved logistics and supply chain efficiency
  • Greater flexibility in production and order handling
  • Optimized energy use and sustainability

Achieving these goals required the dismantling, transport, reinstallation, and commissioning of specialized equipment — all while maintaining continuity of service to Mepal’s customers.

Our Role: Project Planning and Execution

From the very beginning, Moving Industries b.v. was brought in as a project partner and coordinator, responsible for the end-to-end execution of the transfer process. Our role encompassed:

  • Project timeline development
  • Budget monitoring and cost control
  • Risk analysis and mitigation planning
  • Disassembly and safe transport of machinery and infrastructure
  • Reinstallation and commissioning of production lines in Lochem
  • Coordination with Mepal’s internal teams and external stakeholders

Overcoming Challenges

No relocation of production processes comes without its share of challenges. Key among them were:

  • Timing: Coordinating the move without significant downtime or service interruption required tight scheduling and clear communication across departments.
  • Technical complexity: The MyMepal line uses specialized machinery that demanded delicate handling during transport and recalibration in the new facility.
  • Space optimization: The layout of the Lochem facility had to be adapted to accommodate the new production cells while keeping existing operations unaffected.

The Outcome: A Seamless Transition

By the end of March 2025, the physical move had been completed successfully, and production was back online at the Lochem site in Week 14. The transition was executed with:

  • Zero lost production days
  • No significant technical setbacks
  • Full operational capability restored on schedule

Looking Ahead

The successful transfer of MyMepal production is more than just a logistical achievement — it represents a strategic advancement for Mepal’s future. With all production now centralized in Lochem, the company is better positioned to scale operations, respond to customer demand, and reduce environmental impact through improved efficiencies.

For Moving Industries, this project underscores our commitment to delivering smart, tailored solutions for industrial relocation and production optimization. We’re proud to support Dutch manufacturing excellence and look forward to continuing our partnership with Mepal and other forward-thinking companies.
